How to be a Global Citizen

Crash Course on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

  • The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) are a widely known, global blueprint for a sustainable future that educators, employers, and community leaders are all working towards. Equip students looking to be global citizens with the understanding of what these goals are and how they relate to our everyday lives.

    • Gain a foundational understanding of what the UN SDGs are (history, structure, and examples of the 17 goals)

From Grade Ten to the UN!

How Youth can engage and participate with the United Nations

  • Steve shares his inspiring story of how he went from being a new Korean immigrant in Canada to becoming a global policy advocate at the G8 Summit, NATO, UN, World Bank, and more- all in high school! He’ll share his experience working with the UN as a young student.

    • Flexible; typically 1 class period, around 1 hour

    • Answering: What is the UN and why is it important for youth to engage on this international stage?

    • Understanding how youth can directly participate in the decision-making and policy advocacy that happens in the largest international development and diplomacy network

  • Steve shares his entrepreneurial leadership journey as a global child rights advocate in high school, a serial entrepreneur in education and finance, and a policy advocate across the United Nations system. He’ll share his most important advice and key takeaways, fueling the next generation of youth leaders to be even stronger trailblazers and changemakers.

How to be a Changemaker 

  • Social Entrepreneurship is the exciting mixture of innovation, business, and passion to make a difference in this world. Steve will walk students through how to be changemakers in their classrooms, in their schools, in their communities, and eventually their world.

    • In-Person or Virtual (In-Person mandatory for Skills Training Workshop version)

  • Recommended for university students. Can be made accessible to high school students.

    • Students learn how to recognize problems, feel empowered to take ownership of these problems, and how to be leaders by taking action and encouraging others to do the same.

  • All great innovators and business leaders have at least one thing in common- and that’s systems thinking. Steve will empower students with this fundamental learning concept which will allow them to practice breaking down complex problems and working to find sustainable solutions.

  • Students will learn key systems thinking concepts and will practice:

Green Skills Career Building

  • The future of our planet is shaping the future of work, therefore it shouldn’t be a surprise that the world is transitioning to a green economy. Business and political leaders are all talking about the upward rise and need for “Green Skills”. This is the “knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society” (UNIPO). Are your students prepared for this inevitable green transition that the world is already adapting to?

    • Flexible; typically 1 class period or half day

  • For STUDENTS:

    • Steve will work with students to practice the “green skills” that will boost their future resumes and better their chances at employment in this future green economy they’ll be finding themselves in.

    • Recommended for university students. Can be made accessible to high school students.

    For TEACHERS:

    • Steve will train teachers and educators about what “green skills” are and why they are so important to be included in the classroom, curriculum, and extracurriculars. With Steve, the group will collaborate to develop integration strategies.

    • Learn about green jobs, talent, and skills that employers are looking for as we work towards a greener future

    • How to take climate action as a young person in your school and community

    • Work in teams to develop 3 practical green transition projects for your campus (renewable energy, food systems, and waste management).

Environmental and Economic Growth For Your Campus

This hands-on consulting service is for schools with ambitious plans (like net-zero goals, diversity and equity policy, sustainability strategy) that need support to turn them into a reality. This workshop will offer a custom pathway to guide schools to successfully implement their existing action plans, leveraging social science principles, communication best practices, organization tactics and mobilization strategy.
